City of Lakes

Dear Neighbor,

I’m so ready for this next week of promised warmer weather. In part, because I have been promising myself that this spring would be a year of weekend home garden projects that I have been putting off for many years. I’ve signed up for the city tree program (more info below!) and would be happy to pick up a few more for constituents if you are unable to make it, and safely deliver it to your door. Send me an email after you’ve ordered it and I will accept as many as I can.  I was also heartened to learn in Gov. Walz’s #StayHomeMN extension that our local garden stores could be set up safely to open and serve our community. I need some supplies!

Also heartening this week was a conversation with our local farmer’s market staff, who have been preparing options for how to safely operate and maintain our local farmer’s markets this season. The details are yet to be finalized but it is encouraging to see these recognizable signs of springtime in our neighborhoods.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the many people that have reached out about closing the parkway roads around Lake Harriet. While this was a group effort and I was heavily involved in getting it working smoothly closed to motor vehicles, it is ultimately a Park Board decision. The decision to maintain this closure has been reversed, and the details are below. This is very frustrating and not what I have worked hard for, but will look to use some of the other parkway closures nearby in order to enjoy our city by nature, and stay a safe distance from others. I still hold out a little bit of hope that perhaps feedback to the MPRB will help change people’s mind.

Regards,

Linea
