City of Lakes

Dear Neighbor,

In a recent Star Tribune Opinion piece, former state epidemiologist Dr. Michael Osterholm offered some important thoughts on this pandemic and community mitigation efforts. What struck me the most was his assertion that we’ve been dealing with what is going on in the heads of Minnesotans, but not what’s going on in their hearts. We are not going to survive this giving only factual data and information- and he challenges leaders to do better. So I am up to the challenge and I encourage us all to dig a little bit deeper than the latest headline, and start sharing more about what is in our hearts.

I am so grateful to have a safe and healthy family during this time, so far. It’s clear that navigating distance learning as a parent will be no small feat. I am also exploring this new world of not being able to be face-to-face with constituents and yet working to still foster community- in neighborly ways, in participation in government, and in transparency through this upheaval we are all experiencing.

One small way I’ll work to keep people together is by sharing the experiences of our constituents. Last newsletter I shared about our local health care professionals and their immediate needs. This time, I’ve asked a leader from the 2020 Census to share her current situation. I will keep doing this so long as we have people willing to share- reach out if you are interested!

Be safe and well,
