City of Lakes

Dear Neighbor,

I hope this message finds you in good health. As we are in an ever changing environment, I am writing more often to provide key updates for you.

I want to reiterate from my last message that we are in unprecedented territory and while we are working at warp speed to address many needs, it is still vitally important that you continue to share your experiences with me and my office. Please continue to use me and my office as a resource.

Your feedback has been used to advocate for or directly implement some temporary and creative policy changes, such as maintaining water and You utilities, and eviction concerns. You will see below some of those changes and I can assure you we are considering a lot more. What you might think of as your own specific issue might well impact a lot more people, and I want to hear it.

This week I have remained mostly working at City Hall because it is important to me that you are part of the decisions being made here at this time. I had the opportunity to participate in Kenny and Armatage neighborhood meetings that were conducted remotely, which was an innovative and important link to each other to maintain during this uncertain time.

We are working to triage and respond to urgent matters first, but I assure you we are also discussing what’s best longer term. One concern that I have heard, especially since many Hennepin County Property Tax Statements landed on doorsteps today, is how property taxes will look moving forward. Property owners who did not get those in the mail today will get them soon, and some can be viewed online by now. I assure you we are pursuing several options regarding economic relief as a whole, without a lot of specificity or detail yet to share. Mayor Frey signed on to a request to the federal government for relief funds for major cities. Our intergovernmental relations team is working with the state legislature to pursue different relief options. I will keep you all updated as we know more about what is viable here.

Warmest regards,

Linea
