Check your mail between March 12 and 20th for your census invitation, which will have your household's "12-digit Census ID" to fill out the census online.

Go to my2020census.gov and use your 12-digit Census ID to begin. You can still fill out the form before your Census ID number arrives in the mail, but there will be an additional step.

You can fill out the census in twelve languages online or by phone. For 59 languages, there are census guides that can be used as a reference that show translations of the English form.


Why the census matters

Data from the responses to the 2020 census will determine how the federal government will distribute congressional representation and billions of dollars to communities over the next decade.

Under-counted communities could face:

  • Diluted political representation.
  • Under-funded schools.
  • Under-funded health programs, social programs, roads and infrastructure.

The Minneapolis We Count campaign is an initiative of the City of Minneapolis to make sure that no one living in Minneapolis goes uncounted due to fear or misinformation. This vital count of the population happens only once a decade, and its impact is long-lasting.
