Minneapolis' Wage Theft Ordinance

The City of Minneapolis’ wage theft ordinance went into effect on January 1st.

Wage theft happens when an employer fails to pay wages earned by its employee. Approximately one quarter of all low wage workers in Minneapolis consistently suffer from various acts of wage theft, including off-the-clock work, denial of overtime, misclassification or fraud, and other illegal deductions from pay. Wage theft is only one of many examples of labor exploitation and human trafficking.

For more information on the wage theft ordinance, visit the City's fighting human trafficking site

If you've been a victim of wage theft, please report a violation. It is illegal for an employer to punish you if you file a complaint.
