The Minneapolis City Council has passed an ordinance requiring retail establishments to charge a fee of at least 5 cents for carryout bags. Shoppers bringing their own bags will reduce litter and trash, recycling problems and resource waste.

Look for a new website from the City of Minneapolis later this month and an ongoing website rollout through mid-2020. During the website transition over the next several months, many existing Homegrown Minneapolis webpages will still be available on the City's archive site.
The City of Minneapolis Garden Lease Program will open the 2020 priority application process in early January for community gardens and market gardens interested in leasing vacant City-owned lots.

Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is seeking Farm to School partner farms to sell food to the school district for the 2020-2021 school year. Farmers, farm cooperatives, food hubs, aggregators, and other parties who may be interested in selling to the district are invited to attend this meeting to learn more about MPS’ Farm to School Program, how they work with local farms, and the Request for Proposal (RFP) bidding process. FSMA Produce Safety Rule Grower Trainings
Registration is now open for Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule Grower Trainings. These day-long trainings are for produce growers and will take place around the state, December through April. Trainings are hosted by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, the University of Minnesota Extension, farmer trainers, and other partners. This course meets the requirements of using FDA-recognized curriculum or equivalent. All growers interested in learning about produce safety, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and the FSMA Produce Safety Rule are welcome to attend.

Good Food Access Program- Equipment and Physical Improvement Grant
The MDA Good Food Access Program is now accepting requests. The Good Food Access Program Equipment and Physical Improvement Grant (GFAP) increases the availability of and access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food (including produce) for underserved communities in low and moderate income areas. Grants help grocery store and small food retailers make physical improvements and purchase equipment to stimulate sales of such foods.
