The Creative City Challenge returns in 2021
The Creative City Challenge is a competition for Minnesota-resident architects, landscape architects, urban designers, scientists and artists of all backgrounds to create and install a temporary, destination artwork, which acts as a sociable and participatory platform for the summer and includes onsite programming. The Creative City Challenge is conceived as a showcase for local creative talent, Minneapolis community identities and a tangible symbol of the complex stories that make up the many narratives within our urban landscape
The Creative City Challenge will take a hiatus in 2020. For seven years, the program has showcased local creative talent, while serving as a tangible symbol of the complex narratives that make up the many stories within our urban landscape.
As a partnership between the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy of the City of Minneapolis, Northern Lights.MN and The Commons; Creative City Challenge winners have created and installed temporary, destination artworks that act as sociable and participatory platforms for two months of programming, encouraging a sense of connectedness to the city and its rich cultural and natural offerings.
Led by the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, the Creative City Challenge program will spend 2020 evaluating program results and the challenges and opportunities of implementation. The evaluation will also look at how the Creative City Challenge can better work towards equitably serving emerging POCII public artists and Minneapolis neighborhoods as well as the downtown core.
