Native Job Fair

Native American College Fair - October 4, 2019

The Native American College Fair, which will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.on October 4, 2019 at the Northstar Ballroom (2017 Buford Avenue  St. Paul, MN 55108). This event provides a setting in which youth can have meaningful conversations with representatives about college life, courses and admission & financial aid requirements.

Capacity-building Grants - Due Oct 23

The Minneapolis Foundation is pleased to announce a special grant opportunity focused on increasing organizational capacity in order to drive change and deepen impact. We recognize the significant contributions that are made by organizations and leaders in the social sector across our communities. We also recognize the importance of strategic investments to support a broad spectrum of tools and infrastructure that can promote effectiveness in both small and larger organizations. We will consider requests for funding to increase your organization's effectiveness in the following areas:

  • Organizational Capacity   
  • Fundraising
  • Evaluation
  • Communication
  • Leadership (Including Sabbaticals)

All applications must be submitted online by the deadline at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23. All applicants will be notified of our decisions by December 15, 2019.

Brooke

New Step Up Recruitment and Engagement Manager - Brooke Roper!

The City of Minneapolis Step Up Youth Employment Program has hired Brooke Roper to serve as the new Step Up Recruitment and Engagement Manager.

Previously to this position, Brooke worked as the Administrator for the African American Leadership Forum (AALF),supporting their operations, programs, events, logistics, and assisting with the expansion of the organization. She has 10+ years working with youth serving organizations such as the YMCA, Youth Link, The Link (Juvenile Supervision Center), Avenues for Homeless Youth, Omegon Treatment Facility, Leo A. Hoffman Center, Hennepin County, and Minneapolis Park Boards. As an undergraduate, Brooke studied Criminal Justice, and earned a Graduate Nonprofit Management and Leadership Certificate from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Additionally, Brooke holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Youth Development and Leadership, and an Equity and Diversity Certificate from the University of Minnesota.

Brooke is excited to apply her leadership skills to her new role, and to network and connect with new people!

YouthBuild: Now Enrolling

Join YouthBuild to achieve your GED or High School Diploma while gaining leadership skills and hands-on construction training.

Participants receive a weekly stipend while going through training!

YouthBuild Eligibility:

  • Youth ages 16-24
  • Not currently enrolled in school and looking to obtain a GED/High School Diploma
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Available Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm

Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

American Red Cross Volunteer for youth age 16+

Donor Ambassador is responsible for greeting and checking in our donors at blood drives. The Red Cross provides all necessary training and orientation. Volunteers get to pick their own schedule on our online calendar. More >> here

 

Bike Mechanic Paid Internships

Full Cycle offers internship opportunities for homeless and street-dependent youth ages 23 and under. These paid internships require a commitment of 10 hours per week for three months and are meant to be an introduction to mechanics as well as an opportunity to learn and practice the skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment.  Our goal is to help young people gain opportunities, skills, and confidence to lessen the barriers in the way of obtaining steady employment. Prior mechanic or job experience not necessary.

Hennepin County Library - Back to School!

We have resources available online and at all our libraries to help K-12 students with history, language arts, math, science and more. To discover all the different homework resources, visit our Homework help page.

Tutors online

Students in grades 3-12 can receive free one-to-one live online tutoring assistance every day of the week from 1-11 p.m. (with their library card) in English or in Spanish. For details, see Tutors online. 

Tutors at the library

Do you have students who could benefit from extra tutoring or mentoring support after school? The K-12 Homework Help program is a free in-person tutoring program offered at 13 Hennepin County Library locations. Trained tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with students to support them in completing their assignments as they learn in a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment. No advance sign-up needed. For locations and times, see the Tutors at the library schedule.  


JobCorps Training Program 

Do you work with any young people ages 16-24?  The Job Corps Training Program could be the first step to a bright future for many young people looking to make a positive change in their lives. We are enrolling new students every week!

Benefits of Job Corps:

  1.  Free Job Training (trade choices:  Culinary, Construction, Certified Nursing Assistant,   Sign and Display, Paint and Wallpaper, Office Administration, Medical Office Support)
  2.  Free room and board
  3. Academic support to complete HSD/GED
  4. Free driver’s education classes
