Council Member's Message

I've been meeting off and on for two to three years with groups of residents about creating impetus for sustainability initiatives in Eastside Minneapolis and the City as a whole. We've talked about a variety of avenues for local action and have begun to focus on bringing community solar opportunities to Eastside Minneapolis.

I have some great news to share on this topic. Minneapolis Climate Action has been working with Emerge Second Chance Recycling in the Southeast neighborhood of Ward One to place a community solar installation at their site. One of the goals of this project is to make membership accessible to low-income subscribers. Given that the constituent groups I've been meeting with have also identified access to community solar for the income-disadvantaged as an important piece of what we’d like to accomplish, I think this project offers real resources to make a difference.

I’d like to invite you to join me in meeting with Kyle Samejima, the Executive Director of Minneapolis Climate Action, and their Board Vice Chair Jeff Stites to learn more about how folks can collaborate on this initiative and spread the word about this great opportunity to the rest of our community:

 Wednesday, August 7, 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Northeast Library Community Room, 2200 Central Avenue NE

Bring your ideas and your appetite. We’ll have a light meal, learn more about Minneapolis Climate Action’s work with Emerge Second Chance Recycling, and discuss next steps toward fostering a more sustainable and equitable community. Please RSVP to lisa.brock@minneapolismn.gov.
