Partner Profile at 800 West Broadway

Partner Photo

Mayra Garcia-Rivera serves as the Coordinator for 800 West Broadway (http://www.800westbroadway.org/). She is the facilitator of monthly Community Partner meetings that provides an opportunity among Minneapolis nonprofits to connect and collaborate in a centralized location.

The Community Partners Meetings are one of her favorite approaches to “Community As Campus” at 800 West Broadway. Mayra describes 800 W. Broadway as, “One door, many services. 800 West Broadway in North Minneapolis is serving the community with a holistic approach around employment, education and healthy living!” With that in mind, the goal of this initiative is to provide an opportunity among Minneapolis nonprofits to connect and collaborate in a centralized location. When Mayra started facilitating these meetings in June 2017, there were around 7 people in attendance. One year later, there are more than 40 community leaders engaging each month. The “magic” of this collaboration relies on leaders having a place to connect, network, discuss challenges, learn about new initiatives and become one voice around equity and equality in the region. Every month, the Community Partners Meetings offer opportunities to discuss meaningful topics that impact communities of color, to learn from each other and to support each other.
