City of Lakes

Dear Neighbor,

The second draft of the Minneapolis 2040 Comprehensive Plan was released September 28th, 2018. And I have promised to provide you with updates via e-newsletter.

Throughout the past several months, I said (over and over) that all council offices were going to be involved in the rollout of the second draft and would greatly inform improvements to this plan. This was a confirmed part of the process. We were also promised that as the second draft came out, Long Range Planning would provide ward-specific summaries of what has changed. Despite my best efforts, neither of these have happened. This leaves a great deal of my broader policy requests, specific requests for change in our ward, and process requests yet unanswered. And I cannot stand before you and say that the changes that were made to this second draft reflect the vast amounts of feedback received. I can share that they do not reflect the feedback that I have received, at this point. And, we are still combing through the second draft as quickly as possible.

So I ask you again with this new draft: Have we met the goals that we set forward to achieve with this Comprehensive Plan? It is important to me that there is an opportunity in each neighborhood to discuss this second draft and I appreciate the willingness of our neighborhood boards to accommodate these conversations.

The meetings in East Harriet and West Calhoun have already taken place. Here is where the rest of those conversations are taking place:

  • Wednesday, October 10th at 8pm- Fulton Annual Mtg, 2040 Plan topic will begin at 8pm  (Pershing Park Rec Center)
  • Thursday October 11th at 7pm- Lynnhurst  (Lynnhurst Park Rec Center)
  • Tuesday October 16th at 7:15pm- Armatage and Kenny neighborhoods will be hosting a joint meeting to discuss these updates after they have brief business meetings on Tuesday October 16. The 2040 Plan topic will begin at 7:15pm.
  • Tuesday October 24th at 7pm- Linden Hills (Linden Hills Rec Center)

I will continue to meet with people that can impact this process going forward and make the case for incremental amendments to this plan that are good for the city as a whole. I will not stop offering specific ideas and recommendations for improvement, and I will continue to seek outside review and advice from commissioners and other policymakers. Please continue to stay engaged and give us your feedback.
