July 17 - STEP-UP Worksite Tour |
Please join us for the annual STEP-UP walking tour—a time
for Minneapolis Workforce Development Board Members, community members and
elected officials to go on-site to see STEP-UP interns at work and learn more
about the businesses and community partners who hire interns. This year
STEP-UP’s walking tour will highlight Downtown Minneapolis. Join us on Tuesday,
July 17th starting at 8:30 a.m. for networking and breakfast and from
9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. for the walking tour to other worksites. Total walking distance
round trip is .6 mile. Hosted by Xcel Energy at 401 Nicollet Mall. Look for more detail regarding parking and room location in upcoming messages.
The
Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) Board is soliciting applications for
grant funding for new and incumbent worker training programs. MJSP will accept
applications for the Partnership and Pathways Programs.
An
emailed proposal must be received at DEED by 4:30 p.m., Monday, September 17, 2018 for
regular applications. Short Form applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m., Monday, October 8, 2018.

Minneapolis Unemployment Rate drops in May
The May 2018 unemployment rate dropped to 2.3 percent, resulting in 5,548 residents unemployed and actively seeking employment, a decrease of 391 unemployed from April to May.
The federal government’s estimate of the Minneapolis labor force increased between April and May with 1,027 residents entering the labor force, resulting in a total labor force of 241,587. The year-over-year trend for May shows higher labor force participation and a lower unemployment rate from a year ago.
May’s 2.3 percent unemployment rate in Minneapolis is .2 percent lower than the State of Minnesota, same as the seven county metro area, and 1.3 percent lower than the national average.
~Unemployment rate drops to 3.1 percent~
Minnesota employers added 10,200 jobs in May, according to seasonally adjusted figures released today by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
With those gains, the state has added 29,188 jobs in the past year, a 1 percent growth rate. The U.S. rate of job growth during that period was 1.7 percent.
Minnesota’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.1 percent in May, the lowest level since July 2000. The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.8 percent in May.
