Seeking Home Gardeners to Participate in a Garden Productivity Assessment Project

This project seeks to assess the potential of small garden plots and backyard gardens to provide households with fresh, healthy food. University of Minnesota Extension, in cooperation with Hennepin County Master Gardeners, is seeking twenty experienced gardeners to weigh and record the yields of five food crops they grow the most. If you would like more information or are interested in participating, please email Karl Hakanson or call him at 612-624-7948.

Free Plants for Pollinators

The City is asking Minneapolis residents to survey the pollinator habitat in their own yards. People who answer ten questions in the pollinator points survey, available May 14-18, can win free plants and seeds. The first 190 people to complete the survey between May 14-18 will get vouchers in the mail to pick up five free native, pesticide-free perennial plants June 22-24.
Others can claim wildflower seed bundles and pollinator push gardens (containers that hold wildflower seeds and nutrient-rich growing material). Learn more about keeping bees and supporting pollinators.
