Thank You to the Municipal Building Commission Board - Approval to Install Mural

On Monday, the MBC Board approved the mural to be installed in City Hall! This mural is informed by the stories of immigrant and refugee communities in Minneapolis. City staff and community members have been participating in working sessions to paint this mural. The sessions were held by GoodSpace Murals in Collaboration with Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES) through the ReCAST Minneapolis grant. These sessions gave community members the opportunity to engage with City staff that they may not normally engage with. These sessions were meant to build relationships and trust between community and government and gives employees the opportunity to adjust how they do their work every day based on their experiences. Stay tuned for more information on the installation date for this public art piece!

A ReCAST Minneapolis partner, Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES) offered training to City staff around immigrant and refugee trauma in 2017. About ReCAST Minneapolis

The Resilience in Communities After Stress & Trauma (ReCAST) Minneapolis Program is funded through a multi-year grant from the Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). ReCAST Minneapolis is intended to assist high-risk youth and families, and promote resilience and equity in communities that have recently faced civil unrest through the implementation of evidence-based violence prevention and community youth engagement programs, as well as linkages to trauma-informed behavioral health services. SAMHSA created the ReCAST Program to support communities that have lived through demonstrations of mass protest in response to police-involved shootings of unarmed African-American males.
