Seward Honored by American Planning Association as One of 2017's Great Neighborhoods

Seward Award APA 2017

On November 8, the Seward Neighborhood received a Great Place award from the American Planning Association (APA) during the Seward Neighborhood Group annual meeting.  The Great Places awards recognize streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces in the United States demonstrating exceptional character, quality, and planning—attributes that enrich communities, facilitate economic growth, and inspire others around the country.

According to the APA website, "Seward is a testament to the value of diversity when it comes to community building, economic resilience, and neighborhood stewardship. As it says in the neighborhood's Affirmative Inclusion Statement: 'All are welcome here.'"

Engaging Southeast Asians through Soccer

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges (center) and participants of the 2016 Southeast Asian Soccer Engagement Program

NCR in partnership with Lao Assistance Center and the Hawthorne Neighborhood Council are excited to re-launch the Southeast Asian Soccer-Engagement Program! This program has helped establish a strong partnership between North Minneapolis neighborhood organizations and the Southeast Asian community of Cambodia, Hmong, Lao, Vietnamese and Karen residents.

A weekly gathering for the Southeast Asian community strengthens community connections and provides a networking opportunity with neighborhood organizations and city departments. Neighborhood organizations and city departments are recognized in all promotional materials, acknowledged at the events, have the opportunity to table and financially support the program.

Minneapolis 2040 - Online Engagement Activities

Minneapolis 2040 Minneapolis is Growing

Minneapolis 2040 is an update to the City's Comprehensive Plan, a document that shapes how Minneapolis will grow and change. The plan covers issues such as housing, job creation, the design of new buildings, and how we use our streets.

Now on Minneapolis2040.com, you can explore and respond to how we’re turning what we’ve heard from you into a plan for the future. Make a map and show us opportunities to expand housing choice, improve access to retail, and expand connectivity. Download a meeting in a box tool kit to host your own engagement meetings and report back.
