Join us for Early Mornings with Elizabeth on a special date of November 10, featuring Co-Host CM Abdi Warsame.

The Fight for Affordable Housing Includes Section 8!

Special Date ** Thursday November 10, 7:30-9:00 am
Turtle Bread, 4762 Chicago (in the Pizza Biga room)

Join us for a discussion of our Section 8 programs and recommendations for reform, including prohibiting discriminatory treatment of Section 8 voucher holders. Council Members Glidden and Warsame have worked with residents to identify Section 8 program improvement needs, and are co-authors of a proposed Section 8 anti-discrimination ordinance.

We are honored to welcome public housing expert Professor Ed Goetz, of the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute, to discuss the race-based history of public housing and section 8 programs. The Family Housing Fund (FHF)’s Executive Director, Ellen Sahli, will discuss the FHF’s focus on assisting Twin Cities communities in their work to improve Section 8 / Housing Choice Voucher programs, and her experience implementing Section 8 reforms during her tenure as the Director of the Chicago Public Housing Authority. Finally, we will hear from HomeLine Tenant Advocate Zeynab Egale, who has worked with residents participating in Section 8 / Housing Choice Voucher Program.

We hope to see you for this important conversation about our community need for safe and affordable housing. Please note, there will be NO Early Mornings program on Friday October 28.
