Meet Deakin, someone who truly embodies turning passion into purpose. Since July of 2025, Deakin has worked for the Department of Corrections (DOC) as a tattoo instructor at the Algoa Correctional Center. In his role, he supports justice-involved individuals as they develop real, tangible skills they can carry forward. His students gain a solid foundation in tattooing, from essential techniques and safety practices, to navigating success in a rapidly growing industry. |

His students recently achieved an exciting milestone by putting their skills into practice and tattooing others within the facility, “Watching my students progress and grow is a huge achievement,” said Deakin. He is constantly inspired by the level of talent in the classroom, sharing their abilities are double, if not triple, what people might expect. For him, it’s about more than teaching a trade; it’s about unlocking confidence, creativity, and opportunity.
He has also gained a deeper appreciation for the benefits that come with serving the State, such as building towards his future through MOSERS. Outside of DOC, Deakin is a professional tattoo artist and co-owner of VillainUs Art in Jefferson City. Alongside his team, he regularly attends tattoo conventions, where they’ve earned multiple awards for their work. VillainUs Art is even featured in the Discount Hub right now, alongside many other exclusive deals and discounts!
