Message from the Director

This month, the 2023 Learning Framework is highlighting a Sense of Belonging. Having a sense of belonging in the organization includes being included in decision making and having meaningful relationships. What do you need to have a sense of belonging?

In General Services, we want to cultivate that culture where all team members feel like they belong. I sincerely want to hear from you regarding your thoughts on our culture and how we can continue to develop relationships with one another, and also with other divisions to ensure we’re providing the best service we can as the Office of Administration.

I also think about sense of belonging as I integrate more effectively with our division and teammates. I enjoyed spending time with team members at Surplus Property last week, and will be spending this Friday morning with the team at State Printing and Mail. When I’m in your area (or you’re in HST 760) stop in and say hello! There’s always candy in the bowl on my table and a smile and listening ear for whatever may be on your mind!

GS team member wins January OA CARES award!

Laura Adamik; General Services; Administrative Support Assistant  Supervisor: Megan McCarty Nominator: Leah Strid

“The MSECC is a one-person program, which means that during the campaign season when pledge cards are coming in, I can get swamped. This year, many departments opted to return to paper pledge cards, which require more manual data entry. Laura Adamik stepped up and volunteered to help, which freed up my time to attend to other important campaign business. She quickly learned to navigate the MSECC application and how to enter the required data, and was able to flag small issues for my attention so they could be addressed. She was so methodical and careful getting the information entered that I never worried it would be done incorrectly. Despite it not being her program, she was more than happy to jump in and take on this task to help the campaign run more smoothly, and I am so grateful. Her assistance helped me provide more up-to-date campaign numbers throughout the fall to make sure Departments knew where they stood in the rankings. Without her help, I'd still be entering pledge cards from last month!”

Laura, thank you so much for modeling exemplary OA CARES behavior!

Upcoming phone maintenance

The Unified Communications group will be performing maintenance on the phone system the weekend of January 14.

The maintenance window will start at 9 am and will extend through Monday. During the maintenance, users will be able to place and receive calls. Phones will reset several times during the maintenance. While most active calls will stay connected, some calls may get disconnected during this time.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact Jim Brock (jim.brock@oa.mo.gov), or open a Cherwell ticket.

PLDA funds awarded for top 10% of GS team members

Earlier this month, the Professional and Leadership Development Award (PLDA) letters were distributed to all General Services team members identified as part of the top 10% of the division in terms of performance.

The award recipients must determine the professional development opportunity they would like funded by the $1,500 award, and submit the details of that opportunity via their supervisor to Crystal Wessing, GS Director for approval by January 12.

The opportunity must be used or paid for by June 20, 2023, and you must maintain your current status as a team member within General Services to receive the full benefits of this funding.

Did you know?

As we prepare to honor the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., it is important to remember the third Monday in January isn’t simply a day off, but “a day on” to volunteer and give back to our communities and causes that matter to each of us. In fact, it is the only federal holiday that calls for a day of service.
