Chardedra Baker: Very Thankful
In early 2022, Chardedra Baker – along with her children – moved from Tennessee to Missouri, in an effort to find a “better environment.” Before relocating, Chardedra applied for subsidized housing, having no other income at the time.
In April of that year, hoping to gather “any assistance available,” Chardedra enrolled in The Missouri Work Assistance (MWA) Program. She had a strong work ethic, but she needed support. She found a position as a Personal Aide Assistant through a Home Health Agency, which required her to have current auto insurance, as she would be required to drive her clients’ - to and from - home. Although Chardedra had a vehicle, she was never able to license it, due to her lack of funds.
The MWA Program worked with Chardedra to create an IEP (Individualized Employment Plan). Her first step was meeting with a Financial Coach who helped her create a budget with a financial plan. Next, the MWA Program - was able to help Chardedra purchase scrubs (her required work uniform), and make a down payment for auto insurance, as well as assisted with licensing fees. Upon vehicle inspection, it was determined that she needed two new tires, which MWA was also able to help with.
Chardedra is grateful for the support from the MWA team. She couldn’t believe there were so many resources available. At the close of her MWA experience, she commented, “I would encourage anyone who is eligible, to enroll in your MWA program, especially if they are new to the area. These services have been life changing for me.”
Congratulations to Chardedra and the amazing MWA team members who assisted her journey!
