DIMENSIONS: Tobacco-Free Advanced Techniques Training
|
|
|
The Missouri Tobacco Prevention and Control Program provided free training to 35 health care providers who serve Missourians at the highest risk of tobacco use. The one and a half day training covered the tobacco fundamentals, tobacco addiction, tobacco cessation strategies, and a motivational intervention for tobacco cessation.
The training was held October 15 -16 at Lodge of the Four Seasons, Lake Ozark. Participants included behavioral health and health care providers from substance use treatment facilities, local public health agencies, and FQHCs from around the state. Trainees were also trained to facilitate the DIMENSIONS Tobacco Free Group curriculum—a 6-week tobacco cessation group.
The Advanced Techniques training is a train-the-trainer model, meaning participants left the training with the materials and knowledge to train others at their organization.
If you are interesting in enhancing your organizations' health systems change efforts please contact Kayla Langford at kayla.langford@health.mo.gov.

E-cigarette Registry Bills
The Public Health Law Center is a great place to learn how e-cigarette registry bills seek to establish or amend product registries or directories that purport to regulate retail sales of e-cigarette and other nicotine products. Missouri is one of the gold labeled states below considering an e-cigarette registry bill. Click the map below or learn more HERE!

Smoke-free Success Story
The Building Communities for Better Health Coalition, led by the Randolph County Health Department, is working toward a long-term goal of establishing a city-wide smoke-free policy in Moberly, Missouri. As a step toward this goal, the coalition recently supported four local, women-owned businesses—Vintage 424, Dot’s Bakery, A Stroke of Magic, and Rooted 242—in adopting comprehensive smoke-free policies. These businesses, pictured below, are helping lead the way in creating healthier, smoke-free environments for their employees, customers, and the broader community.
Smoke-free policies are the only way to guarantee protection from secondhand smoke. Currently, only one in three Missourians are protected by smoke-free laws. BCBH communities are helping local businesses and organizations increase and enhance comprehensive smoke/vape-free policies that protect all people in all places.

Show Me Smokefree
The goal of Show Me Smokefree is to make sure that every person in Missouri can enjoy smokefree and vapefree air in public places and workplaces.
