Bills Heard This Week
On Tuesday, April 28, the Senate Education committee held a public hearing on SB 1207. Sponsored by Sen. Kurtis Gregory (R-21), SB 1207 requires the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority to file its annual financial report with the Joint Committee on Education. There was no public testimony.
On Wednesday, April 29:
- The Senate Families, Seniors and Health committee held a public hearing on HB 2740. Sponsored by Rep. Mike Steinmeyer (R-20), HB 2740 establishes a Pediatric Disease Task Force. Several individuals testified in support of the bill, as well as representatives from the University of Missouri, Missouri State Medical Association and Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.
- The Senate Economic and Workforce Development committee held a public hearing on HB 2151. Sponsored by Rep. Travis Wilson (R-106), HB 2151 modifies provisions governing the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant. Representatives from the MCCA, Ozark Technical Community College, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce testified in support.
- The Senate Gubernatorial Appointments committee held a hearing to confirm members of various boards and commissions, including three new appointees to the Missouri State Workforce Development Board: Nick Kasik, Suzanne Kmet, and Katie Siegel. These appointments were confirmed by the Senate on Thursday, April 30.
This week, members from both the House and Senate were chosen for the Conference Committee on Budget. For HB 2003, MDHEWD’s budget bill, the House members are Rep. Dirk Deaton (R-159), Rep. Bishop Davidson (R-130), Rep. Betsy Fogle (D-135), Rep. Darin Chappell (R-137), and Rep. Kathy Steinhoff (D-45). The Senate members are Sen. Rusty Black (R-12), Sen. Brad Hudson (R-33), Sen. Mike Henderson (R-3), Sen. Maggie Nurrenbern (D-17), and Sen. Karla May (D-4). The Conference Committee on Budget will begin meeting next week. The Missouri Constitution requires that the budget be passed by Friday, May 8.
