Bills Heard This Week
On Tuesday, April 14, the Senate Appropriations Committee met to begin markup on the House budget bills, including HB 2003, MDHEWD’s budget. The committee returned funding for Missouri’s public institutions of higher education back to the Governor’s original recommendation, a departure from the House position of funding based on student full-time equivalent enrollments.
On Wednesday, April 15:
- The Senate Appropriations committee voted the Senate Committee Substitute for HB 2003 do pass by a vote of 7 – 3 (with one member abstaining). Next, the budget bills will be debated on the Senate floor and voted on by the full Senate.
- The House Rules – Administrative Committee held an executive session on HB 2123. Sponsored by Rep. John Black (R-129), HB 2123 modifies provisions governing funding for higher education. It was voted do pass by a vote of 9 – 1.
- The Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee held a hearing that included a new member appointed to the State Workforce Development Board, Tara Tateosian. Tateosian currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Callaway Chamber of Commerce and previously worked as the Director of Operations for the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce. Her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday, April 16.
- The Senate Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics Committee held a public hearing on HB 3279. Sponsored by Rep. Brenda Shields (R-11), HB 3279 modifies provisions relating to the Missouri Public Service Commission. The committee also held an executive session on HB 3279, and it was voted do pass by a vote of 6 – 0.
