Bills Heard This Week
On Tuesday, March 24, the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (MDHEWD) budget bill (HB 2003) was debated on the House Floor along with the rest of the state department budgets. Of the amendments offered to HB 2003, only two were adopted. House Amendment 1 (filed by Rep. Dirk Deaton, R-159) expanded the geographic area for a pre-apprenticeship program to the entire state. House Amendment 2 (filed by Rep. Greg Sharpe, R-4) decreased the appropriation to the Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment Scholarship by $1 million. Several other amendments were offered but defeated.
Also on Tuesday, the House Crime and Public Safety committee held an executive session on HB 3332. Sponsored by Rep. Mark Matthiesen (R-107), HB 3332 modifies the Public Safety Recruitment and Retention Act. The House committee substitute was voted do pass by a vote of 15 – 1, with one member voting present.
On Thursday, March 26, the House Rules – Administrative committee held an executive session on HB 2151. Sponsored by Rep. Travis Wilson (R-106), HB 2151 modifies provisions governing the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant. It was voted do pass by a vote of 9 – 0.
Also on Thursday, HB 2003 was third read and passed on the House floor by a vote of 83 – 66. It will now head to the Senate.
