Budget Bills
The House Budget Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee continue to hear budget bills. Due to inclement weather on Monday, January 26, MDHEWD’s House budget hearing will be rescheduled. MDHEWD’s Senate Appropriations hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3.
Bills Heard This Week
On January 27, the House Consent and Procedure Committee held an executive session on HB 1628. Sponsored by Rep. Willard Haley (R-58), HB 1628 modifies provisions relating to the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development. HB 1628 was unanimously voted do pass by a vote of 6 – 0. It has been placed on the House Calendar for perfection next week.
Also on January 27, the House Emerging Issues Committee held executive session on three house bills: HB 1607 (Rep. Hardy Billington, R-152), HB 1663 (Rep. Brian Seitz, R-156), and HB 1973 (Rep. Bennie Cook, R-143). All three bills modify guidelines for student participation in athletic contests organized by sex and were voted do pass by a vote of 9 – 4.
