Data Safeguards

The P20W Data Governance Committee, comprised of Data Stewards representing partner state agencies, approved an inaugural data governance framework that describes the process for state partners, external researchers, and others to request data for research or simply ask a question of the P20W team.

The framework also describes acceptable use of the data, protects privacy and confidentiality, and describes all the entities with a role in P20W oversight. An Executive Advisory Committee of Cabinet leaders and/or their representatives has also been meeting to provide high-level strategic guidance.

More P20W Progress

  • Working to incorporate historical participant information from the public workforce system into P20W. Participants' history in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)-supported programs is another important dimension of the education-to-workforce journey.
  • Published a new handout describing P20W and its benefits. Feel free to share!
  • Meeting with many new potential partners and stakeholders. Do you know anyone we should be talking to? Reach out at P20Wresearch@dhewd.mo.gov.

What is P20W?

Missouri is working to link data from preschool / early childhood through K-12 education and all avenues of postsecondary education and training (“Grade 20”) into the workforce.

Similar to efforts in many other states, we will be able to use de-identified data in ways that center privacy and confidentiality to better understand how people succeed in their education-to-workforce journey and what programs and policies helped them along the way.

Social and human services data can also be linked to help understand what programs helped residents succeed. The public will also have new tools to make informed decisions about education and training pathways and career choices.
