Senate Committee Hears Student Aid Bill
This week, the Senate Select Committee on Empowering Missouri Parents and Children, chaired by Sen. Curtis Trent (R-Republic), heard HB 1569. Sponsored by Rep. Ann Kelley (R-Lamar), HB 1569 increases the award amounts of the Access Missouri Financial Assistance Program, creates the STEM Grant for eligible Access Missouri recipients, establishes the Career-Tech Certificate Program, increases the salary thresholds for eligibility of the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant, and requires public institutions of higher education to adopt a policy to grant undergraduate course credit to incoming freshmen who receive a score of 4 or higher on an International Baccalaureate exam.

On Wednesday, the House Higher Education Committee, chaired by Rep. Brenda Shields (R-St. Joseph), voted SCR 22 do pass. SCR 22, sponsored by Sen. Jill Carter (R-Granby), expands the statewide mission of Missouri Southern State University to include health and life sciences and immersive learning experiences.
