Senate Passes Concurrent Resolution for Mission Expansion of Missouri Southern State University
On March 14, the Senate third read and passed SCR 22, sponsored by Sen. Jill Carter (R-Granby). SCR 22 expands the statewide mission of Missouri Southern State University to include health and life sciences and immersive learning experiences.
The resolution was first read in the House the same day.
Other Updates:
- On March 14, the House Budget Committee, chaired by Rep. Cody Smith (R-Carthage), reviewed the chair substitutes for HBs 2002-2013, 2015, and 2017-2020. The HCS for HB 2003-Chair Substitute and the HCS for HB 2020-Chair Substitute are both available online. The tracking document of the changes from the Governor’s recommendations was also made available online. The committee will meet on Monday, March 25 to begin budget markup.
- On March 13, the House Workforce and Infrastructure Development Committee voted HB 2278 do pass. Sponsored by Rep. Dane Diehl (R-Butler), HB 2278 increases the income thresholds for eligibility of the Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant. On March 12, the companion bill, SB 1056, sponsored by Sen. Rusty Black (R-Chillicothe), was heard in the Senate Select Committee on Empowering Missouri Parents and Children.
- The House Higher Education Committee, chaired by Rep. Brenda Shields (R-St. Joseph), heard HB 2905. Sponsored by Rep. Brenda Shields, HB 2905 modifies provisions governing funding for higher education.
- The legislative spring break is March 18-March 22. The next legislative update will be sent on March 29.
