Bills Relating to Higher Education or Workforce Development Heard This Week
On February 20, the House Special Committee on Tax Reform, chaired by Rep. Ben Baker (R-Neosho), heard HB 1712. Sponsored by Rep. Adam Schnelting (R-St. Charles), HB 1712 allows Missouri National Guard member educational assistance grants to be available for tuition at out-of-state educational institutions.
On February 21, the House Workforce and Infrastructure Development Committee, chaired by Rep. Louis Riggs (R-Hannibal), heard HB 2278. Sponsored by Rep. Dane Diehl (R-Butler), HB 2278 modifies provisions governing the "Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant.”
The Senate Select Committee on Empowering Missouri Parents and Children, chaired by Sen. Curtis Trent (R- Republic), heard SB 749, sponsored by Sen. Lincoln Hough (R- Springfield), and SB 907, sponsored by Sen. Jill Carter (R-Granby). SB 749 repeals provisions relating to the authority to confer degrees at public institutions of higher education. SB 907 changes the mission of Missouri Southern State University.
The Senate Veterans, Military Affairs, and Pensions Committee, chaired by Sen. Rusty Black (R- Chillicothe), heard SB 1322. Sponsored by Sen. Sandy Crawford (R-Buffalo), SB 1322 modifies provisions relating to education assistance for members of the Missouri National Guard.
