America Saves Week
The last week of February marks America Saves Week. Throughout this week, we are promoting smart savings and providing budgeting tips to help set you on a firm financial footing. High School Students
- Explore Colleges. Use the Missouri College and Degree Search to compare programs and schools.
- In place of in-person college fairs, the Missouri Association for College Admission Counseling is hosting a free virtual college fair. Visit their website to watch recorded sessions to more than 100 colleges.
- Register for the ACT and/or SAT There is no limit on the number of times you can take the test and improve your score. If money to pay for the test is an issue, talk to your high school counselor about getting your test fee waived.
High School Seniors
- The deadline to apply for state financial aid is April 1. Submit your FAFSA to take advantage of scholarships and grants from Missouri, your college, and the federal government.
- You still have a few chances to improve your ACT and/or SAT test scores before choosing a college. Register today!
- Will you be the first in your family to attend college? Here are some tips for first-generation college students.
College Students
- The deadline to apply for state financial aid is April 1. Submit your FAFSA to take advantage of any scholarships and grants you may be qualified to receive.
- Continue to follow your college or university’s health and safety protocols. We know everyone is tired of hearing about it, but this is just as important now as it was last fall.
- Keep an eye out for possible vaccination and testing sites on your campus. Get the facts about the vaccine at mostopscovid.com.
- Don’t struggle alone – find out what on-campus mental health services are available to you.
- Have you thought about staying home over spring break? After a year of canceled plans, saying “no” to a vacation might be difficult, but it could help slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep you from getting sick. Weigh your options, and make the best plan for you and your family.
Parents
- Talk to your high school senior or college student about submitting their FAFSA. Your student will need to submit their FAFSA by April 1 to be eligible to receive financial aid grants and scholarships from the state of Missouri.
- Because of COVID-19, several accommodations were made to Missouri state financial aid programs. Click the link to learn more about these changes.
- If you are interested in saving money for your child’s higher education, consider learning about and investing in a MOST 529.
- If you are a parent or guardian of a student with special needs, consider opening a MOABLE account, which allows individuals with disabilities to save and invest money without losing eligibility for certain public benefits programs.
