Well, here we are – one month into 2021. It took a lot of sacrifice and perseverance to make it through such a challenging year. This year may also present some of the same challenges, so hang in there! Don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it – your teachers, counselors and advisors all care about your success.
High School Students
- Mapping Your Future is hosting a webinar series called “Strategies for making the most of scholarship applications.” The two-day webinar series will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 2, and Thursday, Feb. 4. Register here.
- Explore Colleges. Use the Missouri College and Degree Search to compare programs and schools.
- In place of in-person college fairs, the Missouri Association for College Admission Counseling is hosting a free virtual college fair. Visit their website to watch recorded sessions to over 100 colleges.
- If your school is still doing hybrid learning, let your parents, teachers, and counselors know if you’re struggling in online classes. This is all still a little new, don’t be shy in asking for help.
- High school juniors – this blog post is for you!
High School Seniors
- If you think you might be eligible for the Access Missouri Grant to help pay for your college, submit a FAFSA before the Feb. 1 priority deadline to ensure you’ll receive financial assistance.
- You still have a few chances to improve your ACT and/or SAT test scores before choosing a college. Register today!
- You’ll need some spending money once you arrive on campus. With some businesses either closed or open for fewer hours, finding work might be difficult this year. Start applying for a summer job now.
- For some universities, application deadlines are fast approaching. Keep a list of the schools that interest you and their respective application deadlines so you don’t miss out on your next opportunity.
College Students
- The priority deadline for the Access Missouri grant is Feb. 1. Your college probably has its own financial aid deadline – find out what it is, and submit your FAFSA before whichever date comes first.
- Continue to follow your college or university’s health and safety protocols. We know everyone is tired of hearing about it, but this is just as important now as it was last fall.
- If you have limited access to technology and the internet, and hybrid learning was difficult for you in the fall, contact your advisor, professors, or student services office. Resources that you weren’t aware of may be available. Read this blog post for more tips on how to be successful in online classes.
- Find out what on-campus mental health services are available to you.
