The Missouri Division of Energy would like to send you on a mission to turn your Black Friday “green” by providing you with helpful tips to assist in saving on new electronics and appliances purchases.

Should you choose to accept this mission, the Missouri Division of Energy has provided instructions (below) on how to save not only on Black Friday but for years to come.

Mission Instructions:

1.) Visit Missouri Division of Energy's website:

 energy.mo.gov/resources/appliances. At the Division's website you will find helpful tips to consider before purchasing appliances.

 2) Find and compare ENERGY STAR® Certified products:

www.energystar.gov/productfinder/Purchasing ENERGY STAR® certified products maximizes your money/energy savings and related costs in the future.

3) Find available ENERGY STAR® rebates in your area:

 www.energystar.gov/rebate-finder 

or

Find available rebates through your utilities:

energy.mo.gov/missouri-utilities-directory

 4) Consider Learning How to Read EnergyGuide Labels:

 

EnergyGuide Label

The EnergyGuide label must be placed on all appliances by manufacturers. The label provides information about energy consumption and shows you how much energy an appliance uses compared with similar models. Keep in mind that the numbers are averages; actual costs will differ somewhat depending on how you use the appliances. The label shows the following:

•Maker, model number, and size of the appliance.

•Estimated yearly operating cost (based on the national average cost of electricity)and the range of operating costs for similar models.

•The ENERGY STAR® logo, which indicates that this model meets strict criteria for energy efficiency.

•Estimated yearly electricity consumption.

•Key features of the appliance and the similar models that make up the cost comparison range.

5) Check your local Black Friday Ads for offers:

Take advantage of scoping out offers before Black Friday officially kicks off. Not only will this allow you to find great deals, but it also allows you the chance to check the items’ energy efficiency so that you save money in the long term, too.
