Missouri Leading in Midwest Clean-Energy Jobs

According to Missouri Energy Initiative (MEI), Missouri leads the Midwest in clean-energy job growth.  The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and a survey of businesses across Missouri show that 52,000 Missourians work in clean energy with 13,000 workers added in the past year. The growth rate for Missouri is the highest among all 12 states in the region and continues to grow due to the creation of new clean-energy programs and the expansion of already established clean-energy jobs in Missouri.

Clean-energy employment creates good-paying jobs such as pipe-fitters, electricians, insulators, and laborers. All of these occupations play a role in completing clean energy projects.

MEI also reports energy efficiency is the largest portion of Missouri’s clean-energy workforce at nearly three quarters of all jobs in the state.  The St. Louis metropolitan area is where a majority of clean-energy jobs are found.

The creation and expansion of clean-energy jobs aligns with the Missouri Comprehensive State Energy Plan and the state’s Strategic Initiative for Economic Growth by stimulating innovation and creating jobs.
