A River Fishing Adventure

By: Chris Kennedy

Back in October, my daughter Alysa and I took advantage of some beautiful weather and went trotlining on the Mississippi River.  While this activity was not new to me, it was her first time.  She has always been an avid angler and spent a lot of time fishing the Mississippi as a child with a rod and reel.  It was a wonderful 2 days, not only did we catch some nice blue and flathead catfish, we also took a beautiful boat ride and explored several Mississippi sand bars.  Alysa is now 23 years old, we spent plenty of time fishing in her younger years; as her father, I am so proud that she still finds time to go fishing with dear old dad!  These two days rank very high on my best days list for 2020.  Decent fishing, great weather and the best company!

trotline is a heavy fishing line with baited hooks attached at intervals by means of branch lines called snoods. A snood is a short length of line which is attached to the main line using a clip or swivel, with the hook at the other end. They are often used for catching crabs or certain species of fish, particularly catfish.
