We are thrilled that there was so much interest for our "Youth Work in the Time of COVID-19: How the Values of Youth Work can Shape our Practice During COVID-19" event. We quickly reached capacity and was forced to put people on a waiting list. So, we've decided to have 2 more presentations on this topic!
Please join us at one of the following sessions (Participation is free. Register in advance for meeting access).
With so much of our youth programming plans up in the air, it can be overwhelming to determine how to best show up for our young people during COVID-19. In this session we’ll dive into youth work values and concepts that can help shape how youth workers:
- think about our core purpose and the multiple roles we can play during this pandemic, and
- re-envision our approach to youth work to be more intentional in meeting the needs of our young people right now.
You will leave with a planning guide to take back to your organization to help inform decision-making grounded in values and research from the youth work field.
Facilitated by: Deborah Moore + Colin Peters, University of Minnesota Youth Work Learning Lab Hosted by: Jocelyn Wiedow, Sprockets + Rachel Oberg-Hauser, Minneapolis Youth Coordinating Board
Your support is being requested! Recently, 75 organizations — including the Youth Coordinating Board — sent a letter to state leaders urging them to provide help for low-income families to access computers for distance learning and academic support like tutoring. The K-12 Education Tax Credit income limit hasn’t changed since 1997. Meanwhile, access to academic supports like this are more important than ever because of COVID-19. With the Legislature preparing for a special session, they need to hear your voice!
Our friends at Youthprise and Minnesota Afterschool Advance are asking you to contact our state leaders to urge them to take action. They've created a page to guide you so we can use our collective voices to help low-income families in Minnesota. PLEASE GO HERE.
