Free public forum offered on guardianships and safe alternatives

For parents of children with disabilities, the issue of setting up a guardianship once that child reaches adulthood can be confusing. A free community forum aims to answer questions about guardianship, as well as guidance on less restrictive alternatives and the risks and benefits, including information on a new alternative known as Supported Decision Making (SDM).

The session is tomorrow, May 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Government Service Center, 320 West Second Street in Duluth. It is geared toward families, parents, caregivers and self-advocates; and will be led by Anita Raymond of the Center for Excellence in Supported Decision Making.

Supported Decision Making is a person-centered approach that seek to protect an individual's rights.

The forum is coordinated by St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services, with grant support from the U.S. Administration for Community Living.
