Incident Summary:

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and Ely Police Department were dispatched to a snowmobile crash on Shagawa Lake near the 400 Block of Shagawa Road North in Ely, MN.  The male driver was transported by ambulance to Ely Hospital, before being flown by Lifelink Air Ambulance to Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.  The male is in Critical condition with life-threatening injuries.  The man's name is being withheld pending notification of family.  The accident is still under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.  Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the accident. 

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office encourages safe and responsible driving of any motorized vehicle.
