Incident Summary:

On February 17, 2017, at approximately 10:43 PM the Virginia Police Department stopped a vehicle in their City and learned the vehicle was heading to the Essentia Health- Virginia Emergency Room with an unconscious male that was involved in a snowmobile accident on Heikkila Lake in the Central Lakes area South of Eveleth. The Virginia ambulance transported the male to the emergency room where he was airlifted to Essentia Health- Duluth for his injuries. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time. The name is being withheld pending notification of family. Speed, Alcohol and Operator Inexperience appear to be factors in the accident.  The accident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
