Incident Summary:

On January 16, 2017 at approximately 3:00 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, along with members from Fredenberg Fire Volunteer Fire Department and Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to an ATV crash involving a 13 year old male driver near the 6500 block of Stevens Road in Fredenberg Township.  The involved driver was air-lifted to the Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, MN and is in critical condition. The operator of the ATV was not wearing a helmet.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office urges safe and responsible driving while operating any motorized vehicle.

Additional Information or Update:

Logan James Rautio was thrown from a 200cc three wheeler at the end of his driveway after sliding into a snow bank. Rautio was critically injured when he impacted a metal pole or cable junction box. He had been riding for only a few minutes prior to the crash. Rautio had previously completed the MN DNR ATV Safety Program and had been riding ATV's since the age of 5.
