Incident Summary:

On 11/05/2016, at approximately 4:23 in the afternoon, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a structure fire in the 6900 Block of the Stoney Brook Road, in Alborn, Minnesota.

The initial report indicated that a hay shed was on fire and the homeowner was worried about the fire spreading to other out buildings to include one that contained several animals.  Alborn Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and requested mutual aid from surrounding volunteer fire departments.  Due to wind conditions at least two other out buildings in addition to the hay barn were destroyed and some others were damaged by the intense heat.  Luckily, no one was injured and the home owner was able to free the animals to keep them from perishing in the fire.  The fire crews on the scene were able to ensure the fire did not spread to the nearby family home.

The cause of the fire was determined to be from one of the children playing with fire and accidentally starting some hay on fire which quickly spread.  The children alerted a parent who immediately called 911 and ensured the family members and then the animals were safe.
