27-mile road project completed in the northern part of St. Louis County

A significant road construction project spanning more than 27 miles from the City of Orr to Crane Lake in northern St. Louis County is completed for this year. The project involved the resurfacing of 16 miles of Highway 23, also known as Orr-Buyck Road; and 11.5 miles of Highway 24, also known as Crane Lake Road.

Northland Constructors served as contractor on the Highway 23 portion of the project. They completed final striping of the road earlier this week. The final phase of this project, chip sealing, will be done next summer.

KGM Contractors was the contractor for Highway 24. That portion of the project, including chip sealing, was completed in August.

All together, the projects total $7.5 million to date, funded with federal transportation dollars and the Transportation Sales Tax.

Striping was completed this week on Highway 23 (Orr-Buyck Road) running from the City of Orr to where it meets Highway 24. It's the final work for this year on the resurfacing project. Next summer, chip sealing will be done to preserve and protect the road for years to come.
