Permit application now available to allow ATV use within city limits

The process is now ready for ATV clubs and cities within St. Louis County to apply to allow ATV use on County Roads within city limits. St. Louis County Public Works has developed a permit application and sample resolution that can be used to seek authorization.

The St. Louis County Board last May approved an ATV ordinance that allows ATV operators to drive on County roads that are outside city limits. The ordinance also set up a permit process to allow ATV clubs or cities to apply to authorize ATV operation on county roads within city limits. As part of this process, the city must pass a resolution supporting this permit application.

Both the permit application and a sample resolution are available online at stlouiscountymn.gov/atv, or by calling St. Louis County Public Works at (218) 625-3830.

Once a permit application is submitted, the Executive ATV Permit Committee will consider it for approval. The committee includes the St. Louis County Public Works Director, Land Commissioner, and Sheriff, or their designees, as well as County Commissioners Tom Rukavina and Pete Stauber. Commissioner Keith Nelson serves as alternate.
