County appraisers to visit neighborhoods hit hard by Monday night storm
Staff from the County Assessor's Office will be touring storm damaged areas in and around White Township and Biwabik beginning next week to assist property owners who may be eligible for tax credits or abatements following Monday night's storm.
In a scene that has already played out multiple times this summer in areas throughout the county, appraisers will go door to door in the hardest hit areas. Meanwhile, anyone who received structural damage to their home, business, garage, shed, boathouse or other buildings on their property can report this information to the County Assessor by calling the Virginia office at (218) 749-7147. More information, as well as a form to file a damage report online can be found at stlouiscountymn.gov.
Damage to structures may affect the assessed value of the property, which means the owner may be eligible for a tax credit or abatement. Damage to other personal property, such as a dock, boat lift, vehicle or other equipment, will not affect the assessed value of a property. Also, trees are not considered structures for the purpose of determining abatements or credits.
In other storm clean-up news, County Public Works crews completed clearing trees from roads by late Tuesday. Damage to public infrastructure was relatively minimal.
