County opens third debris drop off site, this time near Ely

St. Louis County is opening a gravel pit south of Ely to provide a drop off site for tree debris blown over in recent storms. The Skala pit is located on Highway 21, approximately 1.5 miles south of Ely, and a quarter of a mile south the Sotlich Road. A sign will be posted marking the location.

Residents can begin dropping off tree debris beginning this Friday, August 5. The site will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, until further notice.

The site will be self-service, though County staff will be present at times. In addition to trees and branches blown down by storms, residents participating in the Conservation Corps Firewise program may also use the drop-off site. No other yard waste, household items, construction debris or garbage is allowed.

The Skala pit near Ely is the third drop off site opened by the County since the July 21 storm, as a way to assist residents with clean up efforts. The other pits are located in Gnesen Township and Grand Lake Township.
