Heavy rain causes flooding on several county roads
Heavy rains overnight have led to high water in areas in the west central and central parts of the County just north of the Iron Range. St. Louis County Public Works crews are monitoring road conditions and report the following:
Due to a culvert washout, County Road 661 (Spirit Lake Road) in Great Scott Township is closed between State Trunk Highway 169 and Old Highway 169. There are several nearby routes that can be used as detours.
NEW CLOSURE: The culvert on County State Aid Highway 5, just south of Leander Road near the Bear River in Unorganized Township 62-21 has now washed out. CSAH 5 is now closed until repairs can be made. Detours will be marked.
Traffic on County Road 307 (Wuori Road) just west of County Road 303 (Rice River Road) in Wuori Township is limited to one lane due to a partial culvert washout.
Additionally, there is water on the following three roads, but each is considered passable:
- CSAH 5 just south of CSAH 22 in the Bear River area in Unorganized Township 62-21.
- CSAH 65 at the Mesabi Trunk in French Township.
-
CSAH 137 (Spirit Lake Road) near the Bonner Road in Great Scott Township.
Public Works crews also have found instances where water is up to the road edges. There also have been smaller washouts, where repairs already are in progress. Motorists who use these roads are urged to use caution, and may want to consider taking an alternate route. To report unsafe road conditions, please call 911.
