4-H students present drone research at County Board Workshop
Jokes aside about politicians who drone on and on, the drone at this week's St. Louis County Board workshop came courtesy of three 4-H students. Ilsa Johnson, Laura Johnson and Shea Moshier have been researching the use of drones to control predator attacks on livestock, and shared their findings with commissioners.
Their study came about as part of a 4-H "Science of Agriculture" challenge this year, specifically to use Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) as a solution to an agriculture challenge.
The girls have all been involved with St. Louis County 4-H for years, and have raised a variety of animals through their participation. So the issue of protecting livestock is one they could relate to easily. They will officially present their research at the state competition in St. Paul in June.
The St. Louis County Board provides funding for 4-H and other youth opportunities through the County Extension program. To learn more about 4-H and other youth programs, visit stlouiscountymn.gov/extension.
