History comes to life at Lily Lake

wax museum lily lake

Lily Lake 5th graders have been hard at work learning about the “Age of Discovery” (1400s-1600s), a time when explorers set out to discover the world by sea in search of new trading routes, wealth and knowledge.

Each student chose one early explorer to study, then created both a museum exhibit and an amazingly lifelike wax figure. Guests were able to learn about each historical figure's contributions towards exploration and the impact it had on Native American life.

SMS Builders Club holiday wishes

SMS students spread holiday cheer

Stillwater Middle School students made holiday wishes come true for some area preschoolers. Members of the Builders Club collected $2725 in donations to buy presents for 13 Stillwater Head Start youngsters and their families. Each family also received a $50 Target gift card to use as they'd like over this holiday season.

Winter serenades

Stillwater Area High School musicians were busy serenading students and staff before winter break. They stopped by Central Services to sing for our district principals and administrators. Have a listen!

Board chooses to hold off on Brookview expansion

School board members voted down an option to fund the Brookview Elementary expansion through a Certification of Participation (COP).

The board voted on Thursday night to certify the district’s 2019 Payable 2020 tax levy in the amount of $38,246,648.07, which reflects the removal of the COP. Several board members indicated a desire to consider a Brookview expansion as part of a future voter-approved referendum. By under levying, taxpayers will see a lower dollar amount for school taxes in comparison to what was on their proposed property tax statement.
