Native American culture on display for sixth graders

students with Native American animal hides

Sixth graders are learning about Native American culture from tribal elders. They brought artifacts for the students to identify, including ceremonial dresses, animal furs, jewelry and a drum. Students also heard about the healing properties of plants and how Native Americans use them to treat illnesses and injuries. The lessons are part of a partnership with the Stillwater Native American Parent Advisory Committee. More photos on Facebook

School board holds annual Truth in Taxation hearing

The district held its annual Truth in Taxation public hearing during the board meeting. Each December the district is required to present its budget and levy to the community and provide a time for public comment. The report included information about the district’s preliminary budget for 2019-2020, as well as details about the voter-approved and non-voter approved levies paid for by taxpayers. The school board will certify the levy at its Dec. 19 school board meeting.

Read the School Board Notes from the Dec. 12 school board meeting.
