Talk of the District: Helping our kids survive storms of life

Living in Minnesota, you’ve likely all been through a fair share of blizzards and thunderstorms, and you've probably endured storms in our personal and professional lives, too. Those unexpected and life-altering events can throw our world into chaos unless we have the proper survival tools.

So what can we as a community do to help our students weather the storms of life? Superintendent Pontrelli shares some insights (courtesy of Pulitzer Prize winning author Thomas Friedman) in her latest Talk of the District column. Read more.

Speech and debate team nationally recognized

The speech and debate team has once again been ranked among the top 10 percent nationwide! The team was named to the National Speech & Debate Association’s prestigious 100 Club based on competitive and service related activities. The honor recognizes Stillwater’s outstanding commitment to teaching students essential life skills including communication, research, listening, writing and organization.

Tough Run Warped Wall

Pony Tough Run challenges students to overcome obstacles together

Stillwater Middle School students worked together to overcome obstacles in the first ever Pony Tough Run. Everyone in grades 6-8, along with the 4-5 GATE students, participated in the 1 ¼ mile course around the school. It was made up of eleven different obstacles, including a slippery slope, straw mountain, and warped wall. Students tackled the event in teams, running and rolling, crawling and climbing their way through the course. For photos visit our Facebook page.

Students across the district unite against bullying

Students and staff across the district celebrated Unity Day by wearing orange and standing together to stop bullying and support students who have experienced bullying.

At Stonebridge Elementary 1st graders and their 5th grade buddies wrote messages of kindness on the sidewalk in front of the school.

High school theatre students present "Almost, Maine"

Warm your heart in the ice-cold, mythical town of AlmostMaine. Stillwater Area High School theatre department will present nine short vignettes exploring love, loss and friendship with a touch of humor and tenderness.

Performances: Nov 1, 2, 8 & 9 at 7 p.m.; Nov 3 at 2 p.m.; Nov 9 at 2 p.m. (understudy performance)

Special board meeting notice

The school board will host a Legislative Breakfast on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 7:30 a.m. at the Oak Park Building located at 6355 Osman Avenue North in Stillwater. See the official notice.
