Need school supplies? Shop for free!

Families living in the Stillwater Area School District can shop for school supplies with a volunteer at Community Thread, 2300 Orleans St. W, Stillwater, on August 7 from 3-6 p.m. and August 8 from 9:30 a.m.-Noon.

Families must bring a piece of mail from the past 60 days for proof of address. No pre-registration is required.

Summer Slice served up fun for hundreds of students

drones

Students were flying high during Stillwater Community Education’s Summer Slice program. They learned coding and collaboration through a new drone class. The students worked together in the aftermath of a "community natural disaster" scenario, using computational thinking, coding and human-centered design to try to drop a ping pong ball into a bucket.

The lessons helped them use empathy and collaborate with their peers while also learning how to follow directions, solve-problems, and persist through failures along the way - all skills vital to a student’s success in the real world.

The class culminated with a visit from Washington County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew O’Hara who showed students how drones and robots are being used in law enforcement. Watch the video and read more on our website.

Hundreds of students took part in the three week Summer Slice program, which offered enrichment classes like Ninja Camp, Creative Writing, Dirt School and a Fabrication Lab.

Stillwater Area High School art student Clarice Vrambout helped make the emergency room at Lakeview Hospital more welcoming and less scary for children and families.

Clarice designed and painted a mural in the pediatric exam room. It features a scuba-diving Sphinx cat along with 12 hidden objects for patients to spot.

Kick off the new year with Ready, Set, Go! Conferences

RSG

Ready, Set, Go! (RSG) Conferences will be held for all elementary students on August 26 and 27. These conferences are designed for teachers and students to get to know each other. Learn more.

Watch for a mailing from your school to arrive at your home in the coming days with scheduling information. Don't forget … the first day of school for all elementary students K-5 will be Wednesday, August 28.

Based on feedback from families, we will not be holding the traditional “Open House” event before school begins. Instead, parents and students will have the opportunity to meet their teacher and drop off school supplies during the RSG conferences. We also encourage you to attend other special events at your child’s school this fall to get to know other students and families and celebrate the start of a new school year.
