Eighth grader wins inventor award

Jocelyn McBride

Oak-Land Middle School student Jocelyn McBride was named the winner of the Lemelson Early Inventor Prize at the Twin Cities Regional Science Fair. McBride was selected for her project entitled Improved Stereotatic Positioning Method for Radiation Therapy.

The eighth grader designed and built an immobilization device to hold people in place during chemotherapy. The device is meant to keep the head and neck as still as possible to increase the accuracy of positioning in radiation treatment.

The Lemelson Early Inventor Prize is given to middle school scientists whose projects exemplify the ideals of inventive thinking by identifying a challenge in the community and creating a solution that will improve the lives of others. McBride is one of only 270 students across the country selected for the award.
